Fire remains the single greatest risk to those cruising and living aboard. If your vessel floods and sinks you can take to a life raft. Fire, however, is different; it can spread very rapidly, and the smoke and poisonous byproducts it generates can kill, or render you unconscious, before you have time to escape.
